Abstract

Recognition of diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity within educational settings is gaining momentum globally. Despite this progress, attitudes toward sexual and gender diversity are evolving in varied ways; while some regions exhibit increased acceptance, others resist this diversity. This presentation focuses on the distinct experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ students, offering actionable recommendations to nurture a culture of acceptance and inclusivity within the school community. By promoting understanding and affirmation of sexual and gender diversity, this session aims to spark constructive dialogues and initiatives that pave the way for creating LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces on campuses.

Biography of the Speaker

Professor Randolph Chan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research centers around the intersections of minority stress, resilience, and mental health among LGBTQ+ individuals and other socially marginalized populations.
