Enlightening Spark

Title: Enlightening Spark

By: Lee Ka Yi (LKS Faculty of Medicine)

Theme: Inclusion and Diversity

Brief Description:
That night, everyone in this children’s home in one corner of ChiangMai gathered together with sky lanterns and fireworks to celebrate memories and new bonds made during the volunteers’ short stay. Sparklers are special in its own way that it relies on other sparklers to kickstart a new spark. Children and volunteers continue to pass on the spark to keep it alive, like the twinkling stars in the sky, like the firing of neurons, like the resonance of impact made to each other during the service trip. Identities were blurred, but that did not matter. It did not matter where the spark started, nor did it mattered whether the spark was passed from the child or from the volunteer. It only matter that, the spark was made and clearly captured, like the change we have a knowingly made as we serve their society; and that it was passed on from one origin sparkler, like small acts of kindness that will be passed on into circulation around the community.
