Diversity & Inclusion Week: Webinar on Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs (2 March 2026)

CEDARS and the Equal Opportunity Unit are jointly organising a webinar to increase awareness across campus about support for students with special educational needs (SEN).

Part I:  Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO) and Supports for Students with Disabilities/ Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO) of Hong Kong seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities have equal opportunity in access to education. It is important for both teachers and administrative colleagues involved in student affairs to understand what may constitute an unlawful act under the DDO and how to support students with special educational needs (SEN). In this online session, Mr. Clifford Lo, Senior Training Officer of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), will talk on the key concepts of disability discrimination, unlawful acts under the DDO, liability and defence, and prevention of discrimination on campus.

- Applicable fields in the education setting
- Role of staff in preventing discrimination and sensitivity
- Sharing of cases involving students with SEN handled by the EOC

Part II:  Supporting Students with SEN at HKU

As the one-stop student service and resources centre, CEDARS is committed to supporting students with SEN in overcoming barriers, achieving success in their university education and in promoting inclusivity at HKU. In this online session, Ms. Yoyo Ng, Counselling Psychologist of CEDARS, will introduce the SEN Support Services and the roles of staff in supporting students with SEN.
