Talk on ‘Diversity Quotient: How Much of a World City Are We?’

Talk on ‘Diversity Quotient: How Much of a World City Are We?’

You are cordially invited to attend a talk on ‘Diversity Quotient: How Much of a World City Are We?’ to be held on 10 November 2015 at 1:00pm.

Abstract
Hong Kong proudly lays claim to the title of being Asia’s ‘World City’. Yet, in recent years, we have steadily become wary of Singapore and Shanghai as rising regional stars who threaten to strip Hong Kong of this title. One of the factors that goes a long way towards the branding inherent in the notion of a ‘World City’ is its Diversity Quotient.

In light of this, a talk will be held where Ms Puja Kapai will present her findings from her Research Report on the Status of Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong to evaluate core areas of the life of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, such as discrimination, education, employment and poverty to determine Hong Kong’s Diversity Quotient. You are cordially invited to attend the talk and find out whether Hong Kong is really Asia’s ‘World City’.

About the Speaker
Ms Puja Kapai is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Hong Kong where she serves as the Director of the Centre for Comparative and Public Law, the Director of the Summer Social Justice Internship Programme and Chairs the Equal Opportunity Committee’s Working Group on Race, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation and Family Status.

Puja’s research expertise lies in human rights, multiculturalism, citizenship and in particular, the rights of minorities, including children and women. In September 2015, she concluded and launched her research study on ‘The Status of Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong 1997-2014’ which is the first comprehensive report compiling existing research and statistics in relation to Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities.
