Affirming Gender and Sexual Diversity in Education: From Awareness to Action

Abstract

As awareness of gender and sexual diversity grows, educational institutions across all levels are increasingly called upon to create environments that are inclusive and affirming for all students. This presentation explores the experiences of LGBTQ+ students and the systemic barriers they often face within diverse educational contexts. Drawing on current research and best practices, it offers practical strategies for educators, administrators, and campus communities to foster belonging, safety, and respect. Through dialogue and reflection, participants will be encouraged to consider how policies, practices, and everyday interactions can be transformed to promote equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ students in educational settings.
