Training on Web Accessibility for General Users

If a website is inaccessible to persons with a disability such as those with visual impairment, it may be a kind of disability discrimination under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance. This training session, to be delivered by Mr Alex Wan, IT Officer of Information Technology Services, aims to give general users an overview of the concept of web accessibility and the essential elements in designing barrier-free, accessible websites for all people including those with visual impairment or have certain movement limitations. The other training session is a more in-depth and technical one for departmental webmasters or web administrators to acquire the knowhow and techniques to enhance their departmental websites to conform to the common accessibility requirements.

The following topics will be covered in this training session:

• What is web accessibility?

• Understanding the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)

• Designing accessible websites (Visual Elements)

• Testing techniques for web accessibility

No web design/editing skill is required to attend this training. All colleagues and students are welcome to join this training session.
