Equal Opportunity Website Banner Design Competition 2026 Result Announcement

比賽 殘疾與特殊教育需要支援

日期: 18 June 2026 (Thursday)

The winners, selected by a panel of judges, are as follows:

Champion: Lee Ka Yi (Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine)

Title: We're Boundless!

Theme: HKU, a Boundless Campus Where Everyone Thrives

Entirely hand drawn with no AI assistance, this illustration depicts a group of diverse students jumping high above the red line which is a symbol for "limit" or "bounds". I'd like to particularly highlight the student that required wheelchair assistance, but was able to jump higher than anybody else because of help from other students, enabling her to be released from being wheelchair-bound. In this joyous depiction of a healthy and supportive learning environment, I also included students acting extraordinary and being themselves. I adopted a style that is reminiscent of the famous Roald Dahl children's book series (Quentin Blake), tying into good virtues and ideas of personal development.

First Runner-up: Kamila Abdrassilova (Faculty of Social Sciences)

Title: Every Piece. Every Person. One HKU.

Theme: HKU, a Boundless Campus Where Everyone Thrives

Each puzzle piece is uniquely shaped — different, yet essential to completing the whole picture. Similarly, every student at HKU, including those with special educational needs (SEN), brings a distinct perspective and strength. The design celebrates that a barrier-free community is not about making everyone the same, but about ensuring every piece fits and is valued. When we remove discrimination and harassment, the puzzle finally becomes whole — and everyone thrives together.

Second Runner-up: Poon Ka Yiu (Faculty of Architecture)

Title: Together: Building a Campus of Inclusion and Love for All

Theme: Join us in Building a Campus Free from Discrimination and Harassment

This design captures the collective effort required to foster a campus free from discrimination. Using the metaphor of construction, it shows diverse hands working in harmony to build the university’s foundation. Each puzzle piece and architectural tool represents a shared commitment to equity and safety. The iconic campus structure is reinforced by symbols of protection and unity, while the soft, heart-shaped bubbles signify the atmosphere of care and support that defines a truly inclusive community. All students can study and enjoy lives without worries and concerns in this campus. This banner serves as a call to action: when we build together, we create a boundless environment where every student, including student with special educational needs, can thrive.
