Join our student-led seminar featuring three guest speakers who will increase understanding and practical knowledge of mental health awareness and suicide prevention within the university community, including among students and teachers. By opening up conversations about mental illness and suicide - topics often regarded as "taboo" in Hong Kong - we aim to reduce stigma within the HKU community, promote suicide prevention, and equip participants with practical knowledge on how to respond in difficult situations.
Initiated by Equal Opportunity Student Ambassador (EOSA) Chloe Young, the seminar will feature the following three guest speakers:
- Prof. Paul W. C. Wong – Associate Professor, Department of Social Work and Social Administration, HKU; Clinical Psychologist specialising in suicide prevention research and mental health promotion
- Prof. Paul S. F. Yip – Chair Professor, Department of Social Work and Social Administration, HKU; Director, HKJC Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention, HKU
- Ms. Charlotte Ho – Social Worker, Aberdeen Kai-Fong Welfare Association; High School Counsellor, ESF West Island School
The seminar will include sharing by guest speakers on their suicide prevention research, as well as practical counselling experiences with students struggling with mental health. Each guest speaker will also have a dedicated Q&A session. All staff and students are welcome.
